Tuscaloosa News Preseason Boy Tennis Player of the Year Poll: How Voting Works & How to Win

What the Tuscaloosa boys tennis poll is and who runs it

The Tuscaloosa News Preseason Boy Tennis Player of the Year Poll is a reader vote run by The Tuscaloosa News for the Tuscaloosa area of Alabama. Readers choose a boys tennis player for the preseason award,.

The newspaper frames this as a preseason ballot rather than an end-of-season award, so the vote comes before the season is played.

Quick facts about this poll

The newspaper's name sits in the title, which is the quickest way to confirm that a ballot is the official one before you vote.

Which editions are on file and what the 2025 ballot showed

Editions in 2022 and 2025 are on file for this poll. The 2025 preseason ballot is dated to February 2025, and it is the most recent dated cycle in the program history.

A reader comparing editions should note that only the 2025 leader's share is confirmed here, so the 2022 result cannot be compared. On the 2025 ballot, the leading nominee drew 59% of the vote, or 1,532 votes. That is the single vote-share figure the poll gives, and it applies only to that one ballot, not to any other edition or sport.

What the dated history leaves open

The start and end days of the February 2025 window are not dated in the material behind this page. The poll does not state how long a preseason ballot stays open, so check the live ballot for each cycle.

How this Tuscaloosa poll sits beside its Alabama neighbours

The Tuscaloosa boys tennis poll sits among Alabama's sports ballots, and its nearest relatives are the Gadsden Times preseason listings for girls soccer and softball. Those share the preseason format but cover different sports and a different newspaper's readers.

Its distinguishing trait is its single sport and its Tuscaloosa base. The Alabama high school football, boys basketball and baseball listings are weekly or season awards across the state, so a reader looking for a Tuscaloosa tennis award will find it only on this newspaper's poll.

A reader who wants the statewide picture should also look at the football and boys basketball listings, which run on weekly or season formats. For every listing in the state, the Alabama guides collect the ballots in one place.

Can a supporter help a nominee gain ground in this poll?

A supporter who wants a particular nominee to do well is best placed to tell teammates' families, coaches and local readers where the ballot is and how it works. A short, respectful message about the player's season usually does more than any tactic.

Outside help is a different matter. No rule on it appears in the listing, so any help should be checked against the newspaper's terms before it is used. Our page on getting more votes online lists approaches that fit a public tally.
